Jamie Redknapp shares what ‘everybody’ has been telling him about Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier

Jamie Redknapp has now revealed what he has been told about Kieran Trippier who suffered a difficult evening for Newcastle United last night.

Trippier was not only at fault for Chelsea’s late equaliser in added time, he also missed a key penalty in the shootout which saw his side crash out of the Carabao Cup.

Redknapp was covering the game on Sky Sports where he claimed that everyone who knew Trippier would speak highly of him and predicted that the defender will come out of this period stronger.

Redknapp says Trippier is ‘one of the best’

There’s certainly a strong argument to say that Trippier has been Newcastle’s most influential and most important signing since the takeover was completed in 2021.

The 33-year-old arrived from a title-winning side to a team threatened by relegation and has been a huge part in the transformation of the club, helping them reach the Champions League.

After what has been nearly two years of consistently brilliant performances, the right-back has earned the right to have a few off days, it’s only worrying because they’re coming all at once.

But that does not take away how good of a leader and character Trippier is in the squad and, as Redknapp suggested last night, he can bounce back from this and return stronger for Newcastle.

On Sky, Redknapp said: “He is one of the best Premier League players and best professionals we have seen. We you think about all the good players he is certainly one of the better ones.

“Everybody who meets him, everyone says what a great job he does. He’s a great professional. It’s going to be difficult for him because this is two or three games he’s had now but I have no doubt that he’ll get through it. Training will be important for him, and having good people around him as well.”

Trippier needs the support of his teammates

It’s been so important for Newcastle to have someone like Trippier in the squad who can not only lead the rest of the team into huge games, but can also pick everyone up in the most difficult moments.

The cup final last year was a brilliant example of that and Trippier no doubt had a huge hand in getting the players focused once again to bounce back and finishing the season in a strong position.

Redknapp is absolutely right when he says that his Newcastle teammates now need to return the favour and make sure that the Trippier has all the support he needs off the pitch to help him return back to his very best on the pitch.
