Newcastle United’s record signing Alexander Isak is in blistering form for the Magpies at the moment and is starting to look like he was worth every penny of his huge transfer fee, now Jamie Redknapp has said he can go all the way to the top.
Before kick-off this afternoon, Jamie Redknapp spoke at pitch-side for Sky Sports about Newcastle‘s £63million striker Alexander Isak as he identified the 23-year-old as a key man for Eddie Howe.
“Alexander Isak could be a world star. He has so much quality – he possesses all the attributes,” said Redknapp.
“There aren’t many number nines in the world who can do what he can do.”
Isak didn’t get on the scoresheet but he was integral to Newcastle’s win
Praise doesn’t come much higher than that and Isak once again proved his worth as Newcastle went on to beat Manchester United 2-0.

Although the lanky Swede didn’t get on the scoresheet, he was integral to Joe Willock‘s opener, bringing the ball under his spell before spraying it out wide for Bruno Guimaraes to float a tempting cross that was met by Allan Saint-Maximin. He cushioned the header across the face of goal for Willock to nod home on the line. It was a beautiful team goal and it wouldn’t have been possible without Isak’s brilliant footwork.
Man United’s tactic, at least in the first half, seemed to be to just boot Isak at every opportunity to prevent him getting into the game. It worked up to a point as Isak found himself amongst the players with the fewest number of touches in the first half.
Callum Wilson rounded out the scoring for the Magpies
However, when the ball did come to him, he looked absolutely superb and as always ran himself into the ground for Newcastle.
It was an amazing win with Callum Wilson nodding home Newcastle’s second on 88 minutes to seal the victory. Great for him to be back amongst the goals and fantastic for Newcastle as a response to the cup final, and more importantly as a win that takes us back above today’s opponents and up into third place in the Premier League.
What a day for Newcastle fans.
