Jamie Carragher was full of praise for the job Eddie Howe has done this season saying on Sky Sports after Newcastle United’s draw with Leicester that he’s made a believer out of him.

There were many who thought Newcastle had settled when they hired Eddie Howe to spearhead the PIF’s revolution. That they’d tried to land a big name manager and failed so just went with Eddie Howe to get someone through the door.

It quickly became apparent that even had that been the case, Eddie Howe was not about to let the opportunity pass him by. The drive, the determination and the sheer dynamism he brought to Newcastle was evident in the first ever training ground video.

‘Eddie Howe has done one of the best jobs in the Premier League’ – Carragher

Jamie Carragher made mention of the fact that people doubted him on Sky Sports Monday Night Football as he went on to praise Howe for his magnificent job this season.

“They have spent money but when you actually look at that team on paper it is not a top-four team but it has found itself in the Champions League positions. That for me is a lot about Eddie Howe,” said Carragher.

“He has been overlooked by other clubs for other jobs. When he lost his job at Bournemouth, I think a lot of clubs looked at him and Newcastle took the chance.

“I think a lot of people felt Eddie Howe would be the guy who gets them through a year and then they would need someone else to get them into the Champions League and win silverware.

“He is talking about winning silverware and we all believe him because of the job that he has done this season. He has done one of the best jobs in the Premier League.”

Jamie Carragher picked Howe as his Manager of the Season on MNF

Carragher later backed that up by naming Eddie Howe as his manager of the season over Pep Guardiola highlighting the difference in league positions from when Howe took over (19th) to finishing in the top four the very next season.

Howe has brought back Champions League football after 20 years without it and that alone will see his name mentioned alongside the likes of Kevin Keegan and Sir Bobby Robson, but there’s a big feeling in and around Newcastle that he’s just getting started.

Next season will be a massive test for everyone with several teams that were off their game this year likely to pose a much bigger threat next season and with Champions League football added into the mix, Newcastle will find it tough to replicate this season’s achievements.

If there’s one man that will have a plan though, it’s Eddie Howe.
