Newcastle United have played a key role in what has been a special 2024/25 season.
It has arguably been Newcastle United’s best season ever, combining a trophy with Champions League qualification.
Fans often debate whether they would rather win a trophy or qualify for the Champions League, yet Eddie Howe was able to do both. Even more impressively, he did it without any major signings over the past three transfer windows.
Newcastle United winning the Carabao Cup was the pinnacle, and to cap it off with a top five finish was the icing on the cake of a truly special campaign.

Jamie Carragher explains what he loved about the 2024/25 season
It has been a special campaign up and down the Premier League, especially when it comes to honours.
Crystal Palace lifted their first ever major trophy by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final, while Tottenham Hotspur achieved Europa League glory by beating Manchester United to end their trophy drought.
Combine those accomplishments with Newcastle’s 70-year wait for a domestic trophy and Liverpool’s surprise Premier League title victory and it has been a season that Jamie Carragher has loved.
The former Liverpool defender has given his verdict on the 2024/25 campaign on the latest episode of the Overlap Fan Debate on the Overlap YouTube channel.
“The thing I’ve loved all season is it feels like almost every trophy has been unexpected,” he said.
“Even Liverpool winning the league in some ways was probably unexpected from most people. Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Tottenham…
“We’ve debated it, how good the season has been or how good the quality of football, and there have been better Premier League seasons, there is no doubt about that.
“But there have been very few better than the scenes we’ve seen with supporters.”

As well as issuing a transfer plea to the owners, Bruno walked the length of the St James’ Park pitch on his knees after the final game of the season.
The incredible footage was shared by Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie on his official X account.
It is a South American tradition, showing appreciation to God for fulfilling a wish. It is something that Bruno’s fellow Brazilian Raphinha has been seen doing during his time with Leeds United and Barcelona.
