Alexander Isak was a thorn in Manchester United’s side on Sunday, and Jamie Carragher actually believes he would be perfect for Erik ten Hag’s team.
Newcastle United‘s record signing played brilliantly against the Red Devils, and Isak was praised for his efforts by Toon legend Alan Shearer.
While he was unable to add to his goal tally, he did lead the line brilliantly and played a key role in Joe Willock’s opening goal.
The Man United defenders struggled to handle the 23-year-old, while their own strikers had little to no impact. First it was Wout Weghorst, then it was Anthony Martial. Neither got any change out of Fabian Schar and Sven Botman, summing up a limp attacking performance from Man United.
It is clear that Ten Hag needs a new striker ahead of next season, and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher thinks Isak would be ‘absolutely fantastic’ to fill the role.
Jamie Carragher thinks Alexander Isak would be ideal for Manchester United
Former Liverpool defender Carragher spoke on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, and expressed his joy at watching Isak play for Newcastle.
“I love him,” he said.
“I love watching him play. Manchester United need a centre forward and you look at him, I think he would be absolutely fantastic for Manchester United.”
Isak going nowhere
Newcastle fans need not worry. While Carragher might think Isak is the ideal candidate to lead the line for Man United, there is no way he will be swapping St James’ Park for Old Trafford.
The forward is only just getting started in black and white after his club record move from Real Sociedad last summer. He cost £63million, signing a six-year deal with the Magpies.
Funnily enough, Isak actually turned down a move to Manchester United shortly before he headed to Tyneside. It was reported in Spain that he received a ‘juicy’ offer from the Red Devils last summer, but was advised to reject it by his agent. Just like Alan Shearer, Isak turned them down.
That eventually led to him joining Newcastle, where he is starting to show his class after an injury-ridden start.
Carragher is loving watching him play under Eddie Howe, and long may it continue.
