Newcastle United are enjoying a spectacular season right now, and pundit Jamie Carragher believes there is ‘something special’ happening at St James’ Park.
Ever since the change of ownership, the mood around the club has changed. Despair has been replaced by optimism, while apathy has disappeared.
Fans are buzzing to support Newcastle United once more. The takeover brought belief that change could be on the horizon, and that has proven to be the case. In fact, things are going miles better than anyone anticipated.
In just the first full season since Amanda Staveley and co bought the club, Newcastle are in their first cup final since 1999 and are competing for a place in the Champions League.
It is truly remarkable what is happening on Tyneside right now. Newcastle United feels special again, and it feels like we are on the cusp of something incredible.
That is the view of Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, who has spoke about the mood around the club at the moment.
Jamie Carragher thinks Newcastle have got something ‘special’ right now
“I think Newcastle have got something special going,” he said.
“I always think when clubs have got a connection…Arsenal have got that on the back of winning and doing well this season. But that connection you see with the crowd that goes to the pitch. Not every club can have that.
“And I think Newcastle have got something special going on at the minute there. The fans are always backing them, it feels like a real team environment. They’re playing at the top of their game. The fact they’re not conceding goals, not losing games means they’ve always got a fighting chance in every game they play.”
‘Special’ Newcastle could be on the brink of history
That ‘special’ feeling that Carragher alludes to was certainly present in Newcastle’s run to the Carabao Cup final. It almost felt inevitable that we were heading to Wembley.
Everything fell into place, and now the Magpies will face Manchester United later this month.
There is a wave of momentum engulfing the club right now, with everyone pulling in the right direction. Owners, players, staff, fans.
That is what Carragher is talking about. The special connection at St James’ Park is helping the club punch above their weight. Let’s not forget, it was only last season we were battling against relegation.
But that special feeling dragged us to safety. Now it is taking us to Wembley and perhaps even Europe.
