Newcastle United’s Jacob Murphy has hinted that he and Elliot Anderson have developed a telepathic understanding ahead of the new campaign.

Elliot Anderson has four goals in four pre-season games for Newcastle and has given Eddie Howe plenty to think about going into the new season, but it’s not just the gaffer who has been impressed with Anderson.

After Anderson posted on Instagram saying: “Great way to finish off the @plinusa tour can’t wait to be back in front of you Geordies” the youngster was inundated with messages of support from fans with a few of his teammates chipping in too.

Anderson and Murphy appear to be on the same wavelength

One message that stood out was from Jacob Murphy who simply said “Telepathic” followed by a chain-link emoji.

Anderson scored a fantastic goal for Newcastle in the dying seconds of the game against Brighton on Friday night but the thing that has often been overlooked is the stunning long-range pass from Murphy which set Anderson free.

If that’s a hint of things to come from those two then Murphy, who proved a lot of doubters wrong last season with some breathtaking performances, could be in for another excellent season along with Anderson.

Eddie Howe has a tough call to make for Newcastle’s PL opener

At this point the idea that Newcastle need any more midfielders seems crazy given the sheer amount of top-quality players we have for those positions now.

With the likes of Elliot Anderson and Lewis Miley pushing on from the academy and Jacob Murphy finding form we didn’t know he was capable of Newcastle’s midfield is looking stacked and Eddie Howe really has some tough calls to make this season.

Howe has two more friendlies next week to get an idea of who is going to start against Aston Villa and I for one do not envy his task of picking his midfield, but I sincerely hope that Elliot Anderson is rewarded with a place in the starting-line up for the season opener, nobody deserves it more.
