Jacob Murphy is becoming a cult hero on Tyneside lately, not just for his massive on-field improvement but for his hilarious shenanigans both on the field and on social media.

Following Newcastle United‘s emphatic 5-1 win over West Ham on Wednesday night, the club’s official Instagram posted an image of Murphy mid-celebration with the caption “Jacob Murphy loves it”.

The £12million former Norwich winger was straight into the replies with “I do 😝”.

You can bet Murphy is fun to be around in the Newcastle dressing room

Murphy has every right to be loving it too after yet another superb performance for Newcastle. He’s making that right-wing place his own in Miguel Almiron‘s absence. He’s keeping Anthony Gordon confined to the bench and his performance tonight didn’t hurt that at all.

Murphy was instrumental in Newcastle’s third goal, racing out to press Nayef Aguerd after Lukaz Fabianski opted to play a short ball out. Murphy easily dispossessed the West Ham defender before unselfishly laying it on a plate for Callum Wilson to tap home.

Jacob Murphy is becoming much better than we ever thought he’d be

The Murphy of old would definitely have had a shot then and would likely have missed, but this is just another sign of him finally getting to grips with his own ability.

With another game coming up on Saturday, making it three games in six days, it’ll be interesting to see how much Eddie Howe tinkers with the line up, and as such, whether Murphy retains his place. Howe has already referred to Murphy as ‘tireless‘ and he does seem to have energy to spare, but maybe three games in six days is a bit much even for him.

If he doesn’t start, you can guarantee he’ll get some minutes. Eddie Howe has used Murphy in practically every game this season.
