Ex-Newcastle and England international Rob Lee spoke recently in an interview with Coffee Friend. Lee was a loyal servant to the Magpies during his time there. He spent 10 years at the club, from 1992 until 2002, making 267 Premier League appearances for the Toon Army.

In the blog piece, Lee was asked about which players he would like to see arrive in January. Here are the three players that Lee listed:

Jesse Lingard

“Lingard would score goals, it’s what Newcastle need.” He explained. However, Lee understood that they would face competition from West Ham, who Lingard was on loan at last season.

He added, “he’s got energy, he gets around the pitch and he’ll get on the end of things and score goals.”

Reports have circulated that both Newcastle and West Ham are seeking the services of Lingard. It appears that his time at Old Trafford is coming towards an end.

James Tarkowski

“He’s been in England squads, he’s a good defensive player, strong quick and a bit of a leader,” Lee stated.

Many fans have cited that Newcastle’s biggest problem at the moment is the defence. With Tarkowski being an experienced defender at Premier League and some England caps to his name, the move would be welcomed.

Additionally, Tarkowski has been another name that has been linked with a move to Tyneside. For the last month or so reports have speculated the potential move, with a recent report suggesting they’d target him and fellow Burnley defender Ben Mee.

Kieran Trippier

Lee’s final player was the England full-back. He concluded by saying “I’ve always liked Trippier.”

It’s obvious the English international would be a great fit for the Magpies. He’s played at the top level and attaining him from Atletico Madrid would be a huge bit of business. Trippier like the other two has been linked with a move to Newcastle. Apparently boss Eddie Howe wants to be reunited with him like back in their Burnley days.

Lee wants Newcastle to sign players with the right attitude as well as ability, “they’re the players you could get and they’d want to come to Newcastle”

“We don’t want players coming to Newcastle just for the money, but players who want to play for this club and play for these fans.”

The comments really echo the desire of the fans. Granted Newcastle can now look to bigger names in future windows, but they’re still looking for players who want to play for the club.
