Newcastle United battled to a 0-0 draw at the San Siro following their return to the Champions League, in a tough game against AC Milan.
Eddie Howe’s side found themselves under immense pressure from the hosts and were perhaps lucky to escape with a point. Whilst this was a good result for Newcastle In their group of death the Italian giant were unhappy that they could not secure a win.
Italian pundit Carlo Pellegatti has now claimed that Milan were frustrated that they could not secure all three points in what they assumed was their easiest game in the group.
Speaking to Radio Rossonera, Pellegatti stated that Newcastle’s performance showed that they were a team Milan should have beaten, and expressed his disappointment that Stefano Pioli’s side were unable to find a breakthrough goal.
“It left me bitter and worried, because it was the easiest match of the six games, on paper,” he stated.
“It proved to be an easy match, it’s a shame that Milan weren’t able to put the ball in the net. They were three points that I thought I would take home until the end, it was truly a shame.”
Newcastle the underdogs
Given that Newcastle were appearing in their first Champions League game in over 20 years, they are being seen as the underdogs in an incredibly tough group with Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Milan.
All three sides have a lot more European experience than this Newcastle squad. Whilst there are no easy game on paper, it is Eddie Howe’s side that are being considered the easiest to beat.

Newcastle can perhaps use this underdog status to their advantage. They have already gained a point at a tough ground, and none of the three sides will enjoy coming to St James Park.
If Newcastle can pick up points in their home fixtures, then snatching draws away at these tough grounds we’ll suit them nicely whilst also frustrating the other clubs in the group.
Newcastle will welcome PSG to St James Park in the next group fixture, and this squad will be able to test themselves against a superstar in Kylian Mbappe. If points can be gained here, then Newcastle will be in a good position as they attempt to reach the knockout rounds.
