Inter Milan line up shock swoop on reborn Loris Karius

A strange season for Loris Karius could soon take another unexpected turn.

Handed his Newcastle United debut in the Carabao Cup final after almost two years out of a first-team of any kind, the German largely impressed at Wembley even despite the defeat to Manchester United.

While it’s hard to imagine Karius getting much of a run from here given Martin Dubravaka is available in the Premier League in Nick Pope’s absence, his Wembley performance may well serve as a kickstart to a career that had been drifting.

In fact, it seems clubs are already casting keen eyes over his situation.

FC Inter News claim Inter Milan are considering a move for the 29-year-old on a free transfer at the end of the season.

With Samir Handanovic approaching the end of his contract as he pushes 40, Karius is reportedly one of the options the San Siro giants are considering to replace him.

Karius deserves another chance of redemption

Clearly, it’s difficult to discuss Karius without mention the 2018 Champions League final, in which he made two glaring mistakes to allow Real Madrid to triumph over Liverpool.

Still, it has since been confirmed the ‘keeper was concussed and, frankly, that should be the end of the matter.

A long-term future at Newcastle looks unlikely, having made just one appearance since signing. Pope has excelled this season and Martin Dubravka (future dependent) provides a high-quality back-up but Karius’ display at Wembley offered hope of another chance at the top level.

A move to Inter would be a statement of intent. No longer is he a figure of fun and, on a free transfer, would hardly be much of a risk anyway.

Karius deserves another chance. It just won’t be at Newcastle.
