Newcastle are facing something of an injury crisis, with a number of players currently unavailable for Eddie Howe’s side, but there is positive news on Alexander Isak.

The striker was withdrawn in the 2-2 draw against West Ham with a suspected injury, and pulled out of the Sweden squad for this International break with a groin issue.

With Newcastle set to face Crystal Palace after the International break, it is unclear who will be fit in time for the clash, but they will hope that Isak will be available.

Newcastle optimistic over Isak

A report from Newcastle World has now claimed that Isak’s injury may not be a serious one, and that the £120k-per-week striker may be available for the game against Palace.

“NewcastleWorld understands Isak’s injury is not serious and he has not yet been ruled out of the Crystal Palace game,” the report stated.

Isak was examined by Swedish medical staff before pulling out of the squad with his groin issue, but it now appears that it is not a serious injury, and he will likely be available instantly.

Massive relief for Howe

Losing Isak to a long-term injury would have been a disaster for Eddie Howe.

The forward has scored six times in seven league games this season, and is continuing to build on what was a strong debut season in England last season, following his arrival from Real Sociedad.

Although Howe does have Callum Wilson to call upon, Isak is one of Newcastle’s best players, and is a difference-maker in front of goal. Losing him for an extended period could have really harmed the team, and the club will no doubt be relieved that he will not be absent.

With Harvey Barnes injured, Newcastle’s depth in attack is already being tested, and losing a key starter would have been a nightmare for Howe.
