Newcastle United want to become one of the best teams in the world, and to do that you need the best players.

The Magpies have made some major signings since the change of ownership, with top level talent arriving at St James’ Park for big money.

Alexander Isak was the biggest signing. He cost £63million from Real Sociedad, becoming Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever. He already looks well worth that fee, scoring 25 goals in all competitions last season.

Elsewhere, Newcastle United have spent big money on the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Sven Botman.

On just those five players, Newcastle have spent well over £200million.

Newcastle will argue that they are getting their money’s worth on all of those players, and a new article from Four Four Two justifies that stance.

They have released a list of the 100 best players on the planet right now, and it includes three Newcastle United players.

The first to be named is Anthony Gordon, who is 89th on the list. This comes on the back of the best season of his career, while he is placed above Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung Min. That is quite an achievement given how highly thought of the South Korean attacker is.

The next Newcastle United player to appear on the list is Alexander Isak. After his incredible year of scoring goals, he is named as the 54th best player in the world. In the eyes of many, he is the Premier League’s second best striker behind Erling Haaland.

Bruno Guimaraes is Newcastle’s highest ranked player at number 47

But the Newcastle United player who features the highest on Four Four Two’s list is Bruno Guimaraes.

The Toon captain is 47th, cracking the top 50 as he continues to establish himself as one of the best midfielders in world football.

Interestingly, he comes ahead of Manchester United superstar Bruno Fernandes, who is 60th. There really is only one Bruno!

Newcastle need Bruno to go to another level

While Bruno has been named as the 47th best player in the world right now, Eddie Howe needs his captain to find another level.

Eddie Howe said Bruno was ‘immense’ on the opening day of the season, but since then it has been a tricky start to the campaign.

Toon fans are yet to see the 26-year-old play his best football, with Bruno only able to shine in moments. He is still building up his match fitness, after a relentless 2023/24 campaign that was followed by the Copa America.
