Some Newcastle fans on Twitter have been reactive after Rafa Benitez was asked about potentially returning to Newcastle United on BBC Radio 5 Live.
The Spaniard didn’t go as far as to say that he would consider returning to St James’ Park, but he was very open about the fact the club still have a special place in his heart.
Benitez is seen by many as Newcastle’s greatest manager in recent memory, and with a CV as impressive as his, you can understand why fans want him back.
The ex-Liverpool manager wasn’t coy about the fact he’d lost patience with the way Mike Ashley was running the club, stating that he waited until the last possible minute to see if the club would be taken over before leaving.
Unfortunately, Benitez felt that his position had become untenable, and he walked away from St James’ Park.
However, his recent comments indicate that the door may be open for a potential return one day if Ashley is ousted from his position as Newcastle chairman.
With reports circulating that the Saudi Arabians still want to buy the Tyneside outfit, that day could come sooner rather than later.
Supporters would certainly welcome the Spaniard back with open arms.

Imagine bringing him back man, with Ashley gone, SJP would be unreal like 1996 levels of atmosphere.

Without saying ‘I want to come back’ this is the most forward comment he’s made since leaving. Makes you wonder🤔 https://t.co/8SGDRDRV0g
