Former England goalkeeper David Seaman has now shared his prediction for when Newcastle United travel to St Mary’s on Sunday as they take on Southampton in the Premier League.
Taking to his Seaman Says podcast, the former Liverpool star revealed he thinks the Magpies will be returning to Tyneside with three points.
“I’m going to go for a Newcastle win, I’ll go 2-1 Newcastle.”
Seamans backs Newcastle to beat Southampton
Newcastle will be full of confidence going into the weekend, coming off the back of three consecutive victories.
Most recently, the Magpies battered Aston Villa 4-0 at St James’ Park, with the likes of Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron especially impressing Premier League spectators.
Just last season, the two sides were hard to split from one another. In their first run-in, two stoppage-time goals saw Southampton clinch a point after a 2-2 draw. Returning for the following leg, Newcastle just about came away with a 2-1 victory, with goals from Chris Wood and Bruno Guimaraes perhaps undeservedly awarding Eddie Howe’s side three points.
However, the Tyneside club look to be a completely different side this term. This is fully encapsulated and illustrated by Almiron, who has already eclipsed his last season goal tally by six goals.
Southampton are coming off a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace. With Hasenhuttl’s job under heavy scrutiny at St Mary’s, Saints could come out all guns blazing as they fight to climb up the Premier League table.
