Bruno Guimaraes has had a transformative impact since arriving at Newcastle United.

The Brazil star quickly established himself as a key player at Newcastle, as well as one of the most eye-catching midfielders in the Premier League.

Guimaraes is arguably the most important player in a team who qualified for the Champions League in what is widely considered the best division in Europe, offering an indication as to just how quickly he’s adapted to life in England.

Having often talked about how happy he is at St James’ Park, the 25-year-old seems set for a new deal and a long-term future on Tyneside.

Still, there’s one thing he’s not enjoying.

Bruno Guimaraes names the one team he hates playing against

Indeed, speaking to Charla Podcast, Guimaraes named the one thing he finds “horrible” about life in the Premier League.

Unsurprisingly, it’s playing against Manchester City that he struggles with most.

“We know Man City is a step above all teams in England, with all due respect,” he said.

“It’s the worst when we play there, I hate it. It feels like we’re children and they’re professionals. Horrible. It feels like they’re playing with 15, and we’re playing with seven.

“You look and say, ‘Wow, there are so many blue guys.’ It’s unbelievable. And they’re all crazy good. Sometimes we talk, the coach asks: ‘Press the right side, the left side…’

“Against Manchester City, how do you play?! You go out there and let them score right away… It’s very difficult, there are so many good players.”

No surprise – now its about closing the gap

During Guimaraes’ time at Newcastle, they have played Man City three times. Two of those have ended in defeats and one in a draw, with the midfielder booked three times.

So, it’s not surprising to see Guimaraes vent his frustration about playing against that particular opponent.

Still, it’s not as if only Newcastle struggle against City. They are, after all, treble winners and have dominated the Premier League for years.

Now, it’s about closing that gap going forward. The idea of catching Pep Guardiola’s side this season is perhaps somewhat far-fetched but any sign of getting closer to them would likely indicate huge progress from Eddie Howe’s side.

Players like Guimaraes have been signed to do exactly that.
