Reigning champions Newcastle United will get their Carabao Cup defence underway in the third round of the competition.
While most of the 92 teams in the country have already competed in at least one of the two rounds so far, Eddie Howe’s side were given byes due to their participation in the Champions League.
But the reigning champions will enter the tournament in the third round as they aim to get their hands on the trophy once again.
It’s been a tough start to the season following on from a difficult summer but the cup will give a welcome relief from the rigours of the Premier League.

When is the Carabao Cup third round draw?
The draw for the Carabao Cup third round will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
An exact time for the draw has not yet been confirmed but it will come either side of the exciting tie between Manchester United and League Two underdogs Grimsby Town.
The second round draw earlier this month took place before the Wednesday game at around 7:20pm, so a similar schedule may take place. However, the draw could also be held after the tie is concluded.
How to watch the Carabao Cup draw live
With the potential for such a massive upset on the cards, it’s no surprise that Sky Sports will be televising Man U’s trip to Grimsby live.
The game will be broadcast on their Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football channels from 7pm. The draw will take place at some point during the programme.
Sky Sports News may also show the draw, which will be available to live stream on Sky Go and NowTV as well.

When is the Carabao Cup third round draw played?
Due to changes in the Champions League schedule last season, the third round of the Carabao Cup is now played over two weeks to avoid clashes with European fixtures.
The first round of games will be played on the week commencing September 15, with the rest coming the following week from September 22.
Newcastle will be playing their opening Champions League game on September 16-18, so they will play their League Cup match in the second week of ties.
