Newcastle United fans had their eyes peeled for the return of Sven Botman for the Under-21s on Monday night, and Lewis Miley also featured.

Eddie Howe has had to rejig things at times at the heart of the defence due to Sven Botman‘s absense.

Dan Burn has been turned back into a centre-back to help cover, as well as the fact that Lewis Hall has gone from strength to strength this season.

Fabian Schar and Lloyd Kelly have been the other two options for Eddie Howe, with the former the go-to man for the Newcastle United boss.

Interestingly, Botman and Lewis Miley played an Under-21 match on Monday night as the pair looked to regain some fitness.

Lewis Miley was one of the breakthrough stars for Newcastle United last season, but an injury halted his progress and he’s not really been able to work his way back into the first-team just yet.

Botman on the other hand, has been out since March and will take a bit of time to get back up to speed after such a long time out through injury.

Craig Hope was one of the journalists in attendance to watch the pair play for the Under-21 side as they secured a 3-2 win over Chelsea.

He shared his thoughts on how the pair fared.

What did other journalists make of Botman’s display?

Many may have expected Botman to be rusty after such a long period out injured, but that wasn’t the case.

Jordan Cronin was impressed with what he saw, stating that Botman had ‘a pretty faultless opening 45 from Sven Botman too. Composed and accurate with his passing, and defended well.’

Elsewhere, Dominic Scurr liked Botman’s performance, which he described as ‘solid’.
