The future of Joelinton is currently up in the air as Newcastle United are yet to agree to a new contract that would see him become one of the highest earners at the club.

Joelinton has become one of the most integral parts of this Newcastle team under Eddie Howe, though his current contract doesn’t really reflect that when compared to what other players are earning.

Although he is demanding more money, ChronicleLive understand that the midfielder is very happy with his life in Newcastle and will be hoping that the two parties can soon come to an agreement.

Joelinton wants to be recognised for his talent at Newcastle

There’s no clear desperation to get out of Newcastle and go find someone who is willing to pay what he is after, he just wants the Magpies to offer him a fair enough deal that reflects his importance to the team.

Joelinton, who spends a lot of time with his Brazilian teammate Bruno Guimaraes, will be under no illusion that other players are currently earning more than him and he’s well within his rights to ask for more.

It’s not like the 27-year-old is asking for astronomical fees that Newcastle cannot afford, he merely wants to be amongst those at the top of the club and it surely makes sense after what he’s given the team.

We’ve seen in recent games how much Newcastle miss Joelinton’s physical presence and what he offers both offensively and defensively, and if they did lose him they’d have to spend a fortune on a replacement anyway.

Newcastle need to take that next step to achieve success

So far under the new ownership Newcastle have been very careful with what they spend and very frugal when it comes to the amount they’re paying wages and in transfer fees.

Yes, they have spent a lot of money still but that was to overhaul a squad that would likely struggle in the Championship, so they were basically building a team from scratch.

If they want to take that next step, however, they are going to have to break that wage structure at some point as they can’t afford to lose players like Joelinton because of a disagreement in wages.

That’s not to say they can become huge spenders like Chelsea and Man United have been, lumping huge sums on long-term contracts for players who are unproven, but at least pay the fair amount for someone who is now a Brazilian international and Premier League star.
