Dan Ashworth has now revealed how he really feels about working at Newcastle United with rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United.
Man United’s new investors have been very keen on brining Ashworth into the fold to help direct their club into this new era.
However, a new report from The Independent now suggests that Ashworth is reluctant to leave Newcastle because of the role he currently holds at the club.
Newcastle are hoping they can hold onto Ashworth
There was serious concern from the club that their sporting director, who’s proved to be so crucial in developing a long-term plan, could be leaving to join one of their Premier League rivals.
Alternative candidates were even identified as possible replacements for the 52-year-old, so you can clearly see that those at the top were getting anxious about his departure.
Ashworth has done so much for the club despite only joining from Brighton in 2022, so naturally they were keen to keep him around to lead Newcastle into what they hope is a very bright future.
Man United have admired the work Ashworth has done and, as he is good friends with David Brailsworth, it seemed like the perfect move.
However, Ashworth looks to have other plans as this reports suggests he is happy with his role at Newcastle and is ‘reluctant‘ to give that up for Man United’s offer.

Newcastle need Ashworth to progress
If Ashworth was to leave Newcastle they would, of course, find a suitable replacement and everyone would move on from this transfer,
But that doesn’t change the fact that it would be a huge blow to lose the man who’s put so much work into developing the academy already and is helping to transform the future of the club.
For too long Newcastle have had people working at the very top who don’t really care what happens behind the scenes at the club, and now they’ve finally got someone who knows what they’re doing.
Ashworth is considered to be one of the best in the country at what he does and Newcastle would seriously struggle to replace the director moving forwards.
