Newcastle United are returning to Wembley – and so is Amanda Staveley.

The Magpies face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, and it has been confirmed that Amanda Staveley will be at Wembley.

On top of that, Staveley will speak to Eddie Howe before the final too. While she is no longer a co-owner of Newcastle United, she remains a fan and will be cheering on the Toon Army.

Hopefully this Carabao Cup final has a happier ending to 2023, when the Magpies lost 2-0 to Manchester United.

What Amanda Staveley said about Newcastle United’s 2023 Carabao Cup final loss

The 2023 final was special for Newcastle United. Just getting to Wembley was special. The occasion was special.

But the action on the pitch was not. According to former player Matt Ritchie, the occasion ‘stumped’ Newcastle United.

However, the Toon Army still showed their appreciation. They were loud and proud all weekend, while the Newcastle United end of Wembley became a sea of black and white flags as the game headed towards its conclusion.

It showed real unity, and Amanda Staveley admitted to TalkSPORT at the time that she was blown away by the Newcastle United supporters.

“I was so proud of all of the fans,” she said.

“Everybody. I was crying, my son was crying, we’re all crying.

“But it was amazing, at 2-0 down, we had flags going. The passion from everyone, they’ve all taken us on this journey.

“We will win the Carabao Cup. We will win the FA Cup. We will win the Champions League. We will win the Premier League.

“This is all about the amazing fans who have taken us on this amazing journey. We’re just honoured and humbled. We feel very privileged to run Newcastle.”

Staveley added: “We don’t deserve the amount of support we have as owners. We’re very humbled by what’s happened today.”

Simon Jordan was not happy with what Amanda Staveley said about Newcastle fans

The 51-year-old was very emotional after the defeat, and very outward in her appreciation for the Toon Army.

However, TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan was not totally convinced by Staveley’s words.

“I think they’ve done what they anticipated they would do,” he said.

“This is just PR spin. You knew you were buying a football club and that if you got them to a League Cup final you would inundate London [with fans]. So let’s dial down the fake humility and look at the reality.

“You’re the owners of a big club in England. I think it’s ridiculous to turn around and say you didn’t expect that. If I bought Newcastle and set the town on fire I would know that Newcastle getting to a cup final that London would be inundated, because they’ve got a remarkable fanbase.”

Newcastle can make Amanda Staveley’s vow come true

While Staveley’s gushing over the Newcastle United fanbase irked Jordan, the former Toon co-owner was also very defiant about the club’s ambitions.

She stated that Newcastle would eventually win the lot – including the Carabao Cup.

That vow could now come true on Sunday, as the Magpies prepare to face Liverpool at Wembley.

This final will arguably be even tougher than 2023. Newcastle United are a better team than two years ago, but they are also playing against a better team.

But this is a one-off game, and Newcastle will be stronger for what they experienced two years ago.

Over to you, Eddie Howe.
