Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe dropped a big hint regarding whether new signing Bruno Guimaraes will start against West Ham. Guimaraes has only made two brief substitute appearances against Everton and Aston Villa.

It appears that we will have to wait longer to see the Brazilian make his first appearance for the Magpies. His recent comments in today’s press conference indicate the midfielder won’t start against West Ham.

According to the club’s Twitter account, Howe stated, “Bruno will start a lot of games for us and will be a huge player. I don’t think this period where he’s watching and learning from the Premier League is a bad thing for him although it will frustrate him because he wants to show his talent.”

The news is disappointing but Howe has gotten a lot right so far

Some fans will be frustrated with this news. It’s understandable, he arrived for big money from Lyon, a fee of £40 million was reported by Sky Sports.

In addition, the hype around Guimaraes has gotten some fans very excited. He’s got a lot of promise around him, with Ligue 1 expert Robin Bairner rating him highly.

Having said that, the Toon’s midfield three have been impressive in their own respects. Joe Willock and Jonjo Shelvey have turned around their form since Howe’s arrival. Joelinton looks like a completely different player too, he is now playing a different position since Howe joined in November.

Furthermore, some players who have made the switch from Ligue 1 to the Premier League have struggled. Just from Newcastle alone, the likes of Remy Cabella, Florian Thauvin and Sylvain Marveaux come to mind.

So perhaps Howe is slowly easing Guimaraes into the English game. Hopefully tomorrow we get to see him play more than the final few minutes against West Ham. He could prove to be a real handful against the Hammers as the Magpies seek their fourth win in a row.

Some Newcastle fans will be hungry to see the 24-year-old make his first start Newcastle. Unfortunately, it seems that they will have to wait. We’ll just have to be patient, it shouldn’t be too long before Guimaraes is a consistent starter to the Toon.
