In form striker Victor Boniface has given high praise to one of his teammates who Newcastle United are continuing to show interest in.

Boniface has been blown away with how good Florian Wirtz is as the pair have been brilliant for Bayer Leverkusen this season, the only remaining unbeaten team in Europe’s top divisions.

Speaking on The Obi One podcast, Boniface revealed just how good Wirtz has been this season as Newcastle continue to track the midfielder regarding a possible move, according to recent reports at inews.

Boniface says Wirtz can do everything as Newcastle watch on

While Leverkusen are having a brilliant season in the Bundesliga as a team, Wirtz has also enjoyed a great first half of the season individually having recorded 12 goal contributions in 16 games.

Though he traditionally plays in more of an attacking midfield role, the 20-year-old can also play out wide which could prove to be very useful for Newcastle should they act on their interest in him either in January or the summer.

Wirtz is exactly what Newcastle have been missing at times. The German brings that bit of attacking flair and creativity that Eddie Howe’s side have lacked when trying to break down defensive tams.

Boniface could not hide his admiration for his young teammate, adding that he’s the full package and everything you want from a number 10, so it’s easy to see why Newcastle are keen to bring him to the North East.

On the podcast, Boniface said: “This guy is a magician. We are not surprised by what he is doing in the game because in training it’s crazy.

“When he is with the ball. He is so good, he is fast, strong, skilful. Sometimes you see a number 10 who can use the ball without defending, but he can do it all. He can defend and attack and he’s skilful.”

Newcastle are desperate for reinforcements

Although they may not have a lot to spend in January, reinforcements are going to be absolutely huge in the summer if the club and its owners have ambitions of getting back into the Champions League next year.

Of course, a top four position isn’t out of the question just yet for Newcastle, but their recent slump in form has made things very difficult and it looks like Howe’s men may be fighting for a spot in the Europa League this season.

It’s all well and good bringing in solid and experienced Premier League players like Dan Burn or young exciting talents with bags of potential like Lewis Hall, but the team have to invest in star quality like Wirtz to take them to the next level.

Newcastle know that they were ahead of schedule last year which has somewhat hindered them this season, but that doesn’t mean they can’t now bring forward their transfer plans and try to build on last years successes.
