Harry Redknapp raves about Eddie Howe and the Newcastle fanbase

Once upon a time Harry Redknapp would find himself consistently linked to Newcastle United whenever the club were looking for a new manager. It obviously never happened, but it seems that Harry’s got a bit of a soft spot for Newcastle.

One of the most outrageous stories linking the former Tottenham boss to the Newcastle hot-seat was reported in The Mirror claiming that former Toon owner Mike Ashley offered ‘Arry a private jet to ferry him from his Bournemouth home to training every day.

If only Ashley had been so keen to spend money on other aspects of the club eh?

Redknapp backs Newcastle to win trophies

In a clip shared by TalkSPORT’s Twitter account, Harry Redknapp is joined by Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist as he sings the praises of current Newcastle boss Eddie Howe as well as our legendary fanbase.

“He’s done fantastic there hasn’t he, Eddie?” said Redknapp. “He’s done a great job. It’s a marvellous club, Newcastle. Their fans there live for that club. 50,000 every week. They deserve some success, they’ve had nothing over the years.

“They will win trophies in the next few years for sure. They’re only going to get stronger. They’re great fans.”

Alan Brazil and McCoist then go on to compare our fanbase with that of Celtic and Rangers in terms of passion.

Comparing our fans to others? Impossible

Eddie Howe has done a phenomenal job in such a short space of time at Newcastle and it’s always great to hear people who know the game highlight this fact and back him for success. Especially as there are pockets of fans who believe that Howe has taken Newcastle as far as he can and we should now move for a manager more accustom to success.

Personally, I think that’s a crazy argument. If Howe has any limitations right now it’s the squad. He’s absolutely wringing some players dry of all their talent, we are overperforming this season as a result. When Howe has more, better players at his disposal things will only get better for the club.

In terms of bringing in a manager who has won silverware – there was a point in their career when they’d won nothing too. Everyone had to start from zero. Give it time.

As far as what Redknapp and Co said about the fans, well that’s just a given isn’t it? We are the best. Simple as that.
