Newcastle United’s starting line-up last night contained several players who made their Champions League debut last night with more debutants coming off the bench.

It was a dream night for many in that Newcastle United side, but for four men in particular it will have been something extra special representing the club they’ve supported all their lives in Europe’s top competition.

Sean Longstaff, Elliot Anderson and Dan Burn all grew up supporting Newcastle and got a taste of the action against AC Milan last night.

Murphy more than earned his crack at the Champions League

The other Newcastle supporting Champions League debutant was Jacob Murphy who never dreamed he would represent his boyhood club in the Champions League.

Thrown into the starting line-up for the first time this season, Murphy’s inclusion by Eddie Howe raised a few eyebrows but if there was one man who earned himself a crack at the Champions League last season it was Murphy.

The 28-year-old wasn’t always a starter for Eddie Howe last season but he played a part in almost every game for Newcastle and he just seemed to get better and better as the season went on.

It wasn’t just his football that caught the eye of Newcastle fans either, the £12million signing from Norwich kept Geordies entertained with his hilarious antics both on and off the pitch.

Who can forget that hilarious wave he did to Duje Caleta-Car after he was sent off for Southampton, or his face when he scored that rasping third goal against Tottenham?

Seeing his face light up when the Champions League anthem started blaring from the San Siro speakers last night was a thing of beauty.

Murphy was full of love for his Newcastle team mates

Murphy took to Instagram to let his feelings be known after the game posting: “What a thrill! @championsleague with this team. Proud of my guys tonight, we fought hard and can take confidence going into our next games. Thanks for all your support Geordies! @nufc

Among the replies was Newcastle’s Harrison Ashby who is currently on loan at Swansea City who simply said: “What a guy”.

Paris Saint-Germain at St James’ Park is up next and after they swept aside Borussia Dortmund 2-0 last night Newcastle may have their work cut out for them, but I’m sure they’ll be more than up for it.
