Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after hearing about Ivan Toney’s hot streak in front of goal for Brentford.
The ex-Magpies forward left St James’ Park for Peterborough in 2018, and scored 26 goals in all competitions for the Posh last term before sealing a £5 million move to Brentford in the summer.

Impressively, the 24-year-old has taken to life in the second tier superbly well, and is currently the Championship’s top scorer with seven goals in six games after replacing Ollie Watkins.
It was Rafa Benitez who was responsible for selling Toney to Peterborough, and for a fee of just £350,000 according to The Scottish Sun.
In that same summer, he also allowed Adam Armstrong to join Blackburn Rovers permanently.
Quite unbelievably, he is currently the Championship’s second-top scorer with five goals in six games.
In that respect, Benitez may have made a mistake when cashing in on the duo without inserting a buyback clause in either deal.

If you’re concerned about the credibility of the Championship, you only need to see how players like Watkins, James Maddison and Jack Grealish have made the step up to realise that Toney or Armstrong could one day become Premier League stars.
Despite Armstrong’s heroics, the focus on Twitter from Newcastle fans has been on Toney, who netted another two goals in a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday last night.
Let’s see what they’ve been saying about the Northampton-born striker who’s ripping up the Championship…

Abysmal that #NUFC let Ivan Toney go to Peterborough United for $429k. Tearing it up in the Championship for promotion favorites Brentford https://t.co/56YU2T9WoK

Here comes Captain Hindsight .. but I wonder if we’ll rue letting Ivan Toney leave a couple of seasons ago. The man is on fire #NUFC

Toney was very raw at the Toon .People forget he was sent on loan six times to four different clubs and (apart from his last spell at Scunthorpe) didnt pull up any trees. A late bloomer maybe and good luck to him but he’s hardly Andy Cole … #nufc
