Newcastle United goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos was in action for Greece once again on Sunday after his Wembley heroics.
Odysseas Vlachodimos played the full 90 minutes as Greece beat England at Wembley last week, as the Three Lions put in a rotten performance. Anthony Gordon was particularly poor for England, while his Newcastle United teammate was celebrating at the other end of the pitch.
It has proven to be a rather successful international break for Vlachodimos. After helping Greece beat England on Thursday night, the 30-year-old played his part in his country picking up another three points in the Nations League.
However, the man who Newcastle players and staff call Ody was more of a ‘spectator’ as Greece beat the Republic of Ireland in Piraeus on Sunday night.

Odysseas Vlachodimos features in Greece’s win over Ireland
Greece continued their incredible Nations League campaign on Sunday night, winning 2-0 against Ireland to sit top of the group.
They have won all four of their games, and are in first place ahead of England.
After an impressive display against a talented England side, Greece followed that up with a comfortable victory over Ireland.
In fact, the win was so comfortable that Vlachodimos barely had anything to do in between the sticks.
That is according to Greek website SDNA, who gave the £20million goalkeeper a rating of six out of 10.
On Vlachodimos, they wrote: “For a long time he should have the most expensive ticket of the match. A spectator for almost 90 minutes, he procedurally cleared some balls and fillings towards his area, as well as the one phase of the Irish in 69′.”
Busy October for Newcastle United’s most expensive goalkeeper
Vlachodimos was a ‘spectator’ for Greece, as they beat Ireland 2-0. He only faced two shots on target, which is the same number that he faced from England on Thursday. Sadly for Vlachodimos, one of those from Jude Bellingham went in – and it was a shot that he should have saved.
But the Newcastle United stopper will be delighted to end the international break with two wins for his country.
It is probably the last time he will play until the next round of international fixtures, bringing an end to what has been a busy October for Vlachodimos – well, busy for someone who is the third choice goalkeeper at St James’ Park.
Vlachodimos made his Newcastle United debut on October 1st, coming on at half-time during the Magpies’ Carabao Cup win over Wimbledon. He was also a spectator on that night, with the League Two side unable to threaten the Newcastle goal.
Eddie Howe was pleased with Vlachodimos’ performance against Wimbledon, and that was followed by an appearance on the bench during the draw with Everton.
However, that was the first time that he had been in a Premier League squad since his arrival from Nottingham Forest, and it will be interesting to see if he is involved when Newcastle face Brighton on Saturday.
During the international break, Vlachodimos has been told that his Newcastle transfer was a mistake.
