‘Got the respect of everyone’: Dan Burn has settled in well at Newcastle

Since his arrival in January, Dan Burn has had a real impact at Newcastle United. His arrival has coincided with the improvement of the Magpies’ backline.

Boss Eddie Howe spoke about Burn in his most recent press conference and how he’s settled in.

Newcastle’s official Twitter page quotes Howe as saying about Burn: “He’s a great lad and has mixed well with the team.

“He’s got the respect of everyone with how he’s conducted himself and he’s trained very well. He had to be patient for a little period but when he got his chance in the team he’s performed very strongly.”

Burn is what Newcastle needed in January

Burn joined from Brighton for £13 million on January transfer deadline day (Sky Sports). He made his debut in a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa and was given the Man of the Match award by Sky Sports.

Additionally, that consistency has stayed with the man from Blyth. He was rock solid against West Ham United and Brentford alongside Fabian Schar. The Swiss international has also found a new lease of life under Eddie Howe.

Newcastle takes on Brighton at home in their next fixture. It will be the first time Burn has played against his former side since making the switch to Tyneside.

Furthermore, he will want to make sure that his unbeaten record with the Toon remains intact. The Seagulls are not far ahead of the Magpies. A win for Newcastle puts them 5 points behind them in the table.

Going forward, it appears Burn and Schar will be the partnership at the back going forward. Along with Aston Villa loanee Matt Targett they’ve led the charge in improving their back four.

It’s been quite the journey for the 29-year-old. He was let go by Newcastle as a kid, but his journey through the English Football League has seen him end up back at his boyhood club.

He played for Darlington, Yeovil, Fulham, Birmingham and Wigan before his Premier League move to Brighton.

Should the Magpies avoid the drop this season it will be a dream come true for Burn. Not only is he back at his boyhood team but playing a key role in their great escape to relegation.
