Any lingering hopes Newcastle United had of signing Glen Kamara appear to have now faded.

The midfielder has today agreed a contract extension with Rangers.

Kamara, who has been with the club since January 2019, has penned a fresh deal that will see him stay at Ibrox until 2025.

It is the news lots of Rangers fans have been waiting for. Kamara has been a key player for Steven Gerrard since his arrival.

Kamara has clocked up 115 appearances for the club since his arrival, and last season played a big role in the club’s unbeaten surge to the Premiership title.

Gerrard is delighted to have tied Kamara down, saying (via Rangers official website) of the 25-year-old: “Glen is a highly respected member of our squad, who has displayed outstanding technical ability and leadership since he signed for Rangers.

“He plays an integral role in our system and is vital to our style of play.”

Last month, TEAMtalk claimed that Newcastle were interested in a possible move for Kamara.

The link came shortly after Isaac Hayden reportedly became a target for Watford.

In the end, Hayden stayed put and no approach for Kamara was made.

Newcastle have missed the boat

The chances of Newcastle landing Kamara any time soon are now very slim.

Clearly Kamara is happy where he is and enjoying being part of a squad that is competing for titles.

He’s loved there by the supporters and his manager, and it’s easy to see why he would want to extend his stay.

It’s a shame for Newcastle as the energetic and tenacious Kamara would have been a really good midfield addition.
