The Athletic reporter George Caulkin has provided an update on the future of Newcastle manager Steve Bruce on Twitter.

The 60-year-old’s position is massively under threat following the takeover, with new owners aiming to take the club in a new direction.

It has been reported by multiple outlets that Bruce is expected to lose his job, with Graeme Jones taking charge as they look for a new manager.

While Bruce may be disappointed to fall one short of 1000 games in management, the alleged £8million compensation will surely soften the blow.

But when will Bruce’s departure be announced by the club? According to Caulkin, it might not be today.

Caulkin doubts Steve Bruce will leave today

Caulkin wrote on Twitter: “Newcastle’s new owners – a phrase which still takes some getting used to – will be back on Tyneside today. The team are training in the afternoon & the plan is to meet them. As of last night, line was “no decision” on Steve Bruce. I’m sure he’ll go but doubt it will be today.”

If the Athletic reporter is right then fans will have to wait a little longer to get what they want.

Even without a takeover, it’s been clear for a while that Newcastle need to change manager.

The Magpies are 19th in the Premier League and without a win in all competitions.

While some people may think it’s harsh to sack Bruce one game shy of such a huge milestone, he’s been lucky to stay in the job this long.

It’s all change at St James’ Park right now – hopefully for the better. The sooner Bruce goes, the sooner the hierarchy can make a decision on who takes the club forward.
