If Newcastle United can beat Champions League-chasing West Ham, they will go nine points clear of the relegation zone.
In a dramatic week off the pitch, the Magpies have a chance to make it back-to-back wins on it.
After a 2-1 comeback victory away to Burnley, Newcastle return to St James’ Park where they’ll welcome an in-form Hammers side. But who will start for Steve Bruce?
No changes at the back
While Newcastle’s defending left a lot to be desired last week when Matej Vydra gave Burnley the lead, they recovered in the second half to ensure the Clarets didn’t add a second.
Martin Dubravka was sensational, while Federico Fernandez provided some vital blocks on his return to the starting XI.
The wing-backs impressed too, particularly Jacob Murphy whose stunning goal brought Newcastle level.
With no players returning from injury and no fresh concerns, Bruce has no reason to change anything at the back.
Pressure on Shelvey
Jonjo Shelvey needlessly put himself and his teammates under pressure during the week.
In an interview with talkSPORT, the midfielder claimed the Magpies’ squad was just as good as West Ham’s – despite the league table suggesting otherwise.
Shelvey needs to let his football do the talking on Saturday, as he continues in midfield alongside Sean Longstaff and Miguel Almiron.
There will hopefully be a slight change in midfield though, as Almiron is much more influential on the left rather than the right.
Saint-Maximin to start
Allan Saint-Maximin was the hero against Burnley.
Within moments of coming off the bench, the Frenchman turned the game completely on its head.
With an assist and a goal to his name, Saint-Maximin proved why he is Newcastle’s talisman.
That was his second appearance in a row off the bench, but now is the time for him to start – likely in place of Dwight Gayle.
The striker has scored just once this season, and seems to have blown his chance to command a place in the starting XI.
While Callum Wilson is back fit too, it would not a be a surprise to see him start on the bench once again.
