Long-term Newcastle United target Scott McTominay has been doing it on the international stage yet again leading Gary Lineker to ponder what’s going on.
Scott McTominay opened the scoring for Scotland in their 3-0 win over Cyprus on Friday and now the Newcastle target is gearing up to face England tomorrow night.
Gary Lineker is clearly a big admirer of McTominay and can’t understand why he’s still at Manchester United if he’s not getting the game time he deserves.
Lineker is baffled that McTominay remains at Man United
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Gary Lineker has questioned what’s going on with his current club situation, saying: “: I notice Scott McTominay playing and getting in the box a lot. He scored again in this game, he scored a couple in the game first time against Cyprus. He’s top scorer in qualifying. It’s nuts, yet he’s not really getting a look in at Manchester United. Someone will go for him surely?”
Newcastle were linked with McTominay all summer and later in the window West Ham were looking towards the £40million-rated midfielder as a replacement for Declan Rice, but he remains on the books at Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag seemingly has no fancy for him so it’s baffling as to why he didn’t make a move, especially with genuine interest in his services.
Is McTominay a good fit for Newcastle?
Newcastle fans have never really been convinced by the idea of McTominay, myself among them. I’m not sure if he really improves our side, but there’s no denying he’s a good player as he keeps proving for Scotland.

For me, McTominay is one of those players that I’d not really celebrate signing but will probably end up loving when I start to see what the pundits see as pundits seem to adore him.
Granted, his most recent goal was against Cyprus, but he will be lining up to face England on Tuesday night so it will be worth keeping an eye on him to see what he could potentially bring to Newcastle should we reignite our interest.
