Alan Shearer was not a happy man after Newcastle United lost to Manchester City on Saturday.
The Magpies extended their awful record at the Etihad Stadium, as Newcastle lost 4-0 to Man City. Pep Guardiola’s side were much improved, but Eddie Howe’s players certainly made it easy for them.
It was a rotten performance from Newcastle United. Bruno Guimaraes was not happy after the game, with the Magpies now down to seventh in the Premier League table. They have lost ground in the race to qualify for the Champions League, which makes next weekend’s game against Nottingham Forest even more crucial.

What Alan Shearer was like after Newcastle United loss
Speaking on Match Of The Day on Saturday night, Alan Shearer said Newcastle’s performance was ‘unacceptable’.
The Newcastle United legend made it very clear that he was not happy with the display, which was a feeling shared by pretty much every Toon supporter.
Now Gary Lineker has spoken about Alan Shearer’s reaction to the defeat, telling Micah Richards on the latest episode of The Rest Is Football podcast what their friend was really like in private after the game.
“After the resort at the Etihad on Saturday, perhaps it might be a good thing [that he’s not on the podcast], because honestly, Micah, he was so grumpy yesterday,” he said.

Richards replied: “His analysis was a bit, no fight, no desire. I was thinking, wow, they’ve had a bad day, they’ve had an off day. Calm down, Alan. Calm down.”
Lineker added: “They [Newcastle] were going to win the league a couple of weeks ago. And the other thing he said a while back was that ‘I don’t care about any other game this season, as long as we win a trophy, we can lose them all’. That soon changed.”
Newcastle United cannot be distracted by Carabao Cup final
It really was a terrible performance from Newcastle United. It is no wonder that Shearer was so annoyed.
It highlighted the lack of consistency in this Newcastle team. Far too often this season they have either been exceptional or bordering on disgraceful.
While Man City played well, Newcastle let them. Given their struggles in recent months, the Magpies completely let Man City off the hook.
There was no intensity in Newcastle’s performance, as they gave away cheap goal after cheap goal.
Newcastle have four more games before the Carabao Cup final, and it is vital that they take form into the game against Liverpool at Wembley. They cannot let it be a distraction and damage their Premier League form.
But the Magpies have a chance to put things right next weekend, as they face Nottingham Forest at St James’ Park. Given their position in the league, that is a vital game in the race for Champions League qualification.
After that, Newcastle are off to Anfield for a Carabao Cup final rehearsal.
