Garth Crooks raved about Newcastle man Isaac Hayden for his showing in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Southampton.
The BBC Sport pundit named him in his Team of the Week for his standout showing as the Magpies claimed an important three points.
Hayden has become Steve Bruce’s utility man this season and filled in at centre-back again on Saturday.
His performance drew some high praise from Crooks who was desperately impressed with the 25-year-old.

He told BBC Sport: “For me, Newcastle’s 3-2 win over Southampton on Saturday was the match of the day. The conditions became progressively worse but the quality of football was tremendous.
“Isaac Hayden was magnificent in the last 20 minutes of this fixture. His clearance off the line from a Danny Ings shot was outstanding.
“His ability to sense the danger and hold off the Saints bombardment was quite brilliant.”
Hayden arrived at Newcastle from Arsenal in 2016 and he’s proved a decent addition to the ranks.
He has played 151 games for the Magpies and always give his all when called upon.
Hayden the surprise package of 2020/21
It wasn’t long ago that the versatile performer was considering a move away from the club.
A desire to be nearer his southern roots had led to some speculation – although nothing came to fruition.
Looking at his form this season, that’s a big positive for Newcastle with Hayden playing tremendously well.
The utility man earns £30,000-a-week at St James’ Park and is proving a quality player for Steve Bruce.

Hayden is Newcastle’s best-ranked player when it comes to interceptions (32), according to Who Scored.
With 36 tackles he is one behind Miguel Almiron as the best tackler at the club too.
Newcastle have struggled for a consistent back four this season and Hayden has filled in with alomb.
Supporters will hope he can continue his fine form and progress even further at the club.
