Garth Crooks has heaped praise on Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson for his performance in Friday’s 4-2 win over Leicester City (BBC Sport).
The Magpies talisman was at the double as Newcastle shocked the Foxes at the King Power Stadium.
Steve Bruce’s men are now safe from relegation, following Fulham’s 2-0 defeat to Burnley last night which consigned them to the Championship.
Newcastle can now relax and they’ll hope to finish the season with a flourish .
Their chances of doing that will be boosted now that Wilson is fit and firing and he’ll hope to add to his 12 goals.
The 29-year-old has proved a decent signing for Newcastle and Crooks was impressed with the player at the weekend.
He named Wilson in his BBC Sport Team of the Week and had plenty of praise for the talisman.
Crooks told the BBC Sport website: “What a performance by Newcastle. The only question that needs to be asked is why did Steve Bruce have to wait so long to see it?
“As for Callum Wilson, he was electric. Two brilliantly taken goals gave Newcastle a 4-0 lead and now they can look forward to a cushy summer.”
Wilson has proved quality Newcastle business
The striker has improved the Newcastle ranks considerably and supporters are delighted with the work he’s done for the club.
Wilson’s goals have been crucial to the club’s fortunes this season and without them, things might have been badly different.
Newcastle don’t always get things right on the transfer front but in the £46,000-a-week Wilson, they’ve signed a proven Premier League goalscorer.
The challenge for Bruce next season is to keep him fit and find a way to create even more chance for him to score goals.
