According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is a target for Leeds this summer.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper, with Kiko Casilla joining Elche on loan.
Leeds now need to sign a new backup to Illan Meslier, and Woodman is one of three reported targets.
The Yorkshire Evening Post claim Leeds are also looking at Dani Cardenas and Kristoffer Klaesson to replace three-time Champions League winner Casilla.
Regardless of who they sign, Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta wants to conclude a deal quickly before their first pre-season friendly.
Leeds aren’t the first Premier League team to be linked with Woodman this summer. Arsenal and Southampton are also keen, according to the Chronicle.
Should Newcastle sell Freddie Woodman to Leeds?
If Leeds want to complete a quick deal for a goalkeeper, then they might have to look elsewhere.
Nothing is happening quickly at Newcastle right now, with the club remaining in limbo.
The takeover saga has ground the Magpies to a halt.
No players have arrived, and the only departure so far is Lewis Cass joining Port Vale on loan.
The only reason Newcastle should sell Woodman is if they are desperate to raise funds. And even then, it would perhaps be a poor move in the long run.
Woodman is 24-years-old, and can be a future number one at St James’ Park.
However, he likely won’t get that chance this season, with Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow ahead of him.
Another loan move would be best for Newcastle. But would that be best for Woodman? That’s for the player to decide.
Regardless, with no word on when the ownership issue will be resolved, it seems highly unlikely that Woodman would be allowed to leave permanently right now.
If Leeds want a quick deal, then Woodman probably isn’t the man for them.
