Former Newcastle striker Salomon Rondon reportedly set to leave China

Despite only being with us for a year, Salomon Rondon is still adored on Tyneside.

The striker joined Newcastle on loan in 2018, and had a fantastic year at St James’ Park.

With the number nine on his back, he scored 11 Premier League goals in 32 games – his best tally in England.

But the loan deal wasn’t made permanent, as the summer of 2019 brought big changes to the club.

Rondon left. Rafa Benitez left. Ayoze Perez left. Steve Bruce arrived, and so did record signing Joelinton.

The Magpies could’ve got Rondon back, but instead opted for the much younger and more expensive Brazilian.

Instead, Rondon head to China, following Benitez to Dalian Yifang.

But the Spaniard left his job in the Chinese Super League last month, and it looks as though Rondon is set to depart as well.

Rondon reportedly returning to Russia

According to Metaratings.ru, the Venezuelan is set to join CSKA Moscow.

The report states that Rondon will become one of the club’s highest paid players, and will undergo a medical soon.

The 31-year-old has played in Russia before – previously lining up for Rubin Kazan and Zenit Saint Petersburg.

Rondon’s time in China looks to be coming to an end, and I’m sure a lot of Toon fans wish he was heading back to the north east – especially with Callum Wilson picking up an injury on Saturday.

Instead, Bruce will likely turn to one of Joelinton, Andy Carroll or Dwight Gayle to take the top scorer’s place.
