Sweden have sacked former Newcastle United striker Jon Dahl Tomasson as manager.
On Monday, Sweden lost 1-0 to Kosovo to all but end their hopes of automatically qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
It would now take a remarkable turnaround to see Sweden qualify, which has to be seen as a major disappointment given their resources.
This is something of a golden generation for Sweden. Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres lead the line, while the likes of Anthony Elanga, Roony Bardghji and Lucas Bergvall are hugely promising players.
However, they are bottom of Group B after taking only one point from their opening four games.

Sweden have never sacked a manager before
This is new ground for the Swedish Football Federation.
Never before in their history have they sacked a men’s national team manager.
Tomasson was appointed as the Sweden manager in February 2024 and won nine of his 18 games in charge.
Previously, he has managed Blackburn, Malmo, Roda JC and Excelsior.
Tomasson, who won the Champions League as a player with AC Milan in 2003, joined Newcastle from Heerenveen in 1997.
He left St James’ Park for Feyenoord a year later after scoring just four goals in 35 games for the club.
