Former Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll has signed for West Bromwich Albion until the end of the season. The English striker was previously at Reading on a two-month deal he signed in November.
Carroll’s deal with the Royals ran out this month. A report from The Sun stated they were confident in regaining his services until the end of the season. However, with an injury to new signing Daryl Dike, West Brom was able to get the striker’s signature.
Newcastle released Carroll in the summer of 2021. Steve Bruce was in charge of the Toon at the time.
Baggies boss Valerien Ismael is very pleased with the signing. He said on the club’s website, “Andy is a player who is able to help us straight away. He is ready and brings with him all the attributes we need. It could be a win-win situation for us.”
Carroll could be heading back to the Premier League sooner than expected?
Last November, Carroll signed for Reading on a two-month deal. In that time he bagged two goals. He had been linked with a move to relegation rivals Burnley, according to the MailOnline.
However, the move to West Brom is a step-up for ‘Big AC’. The Baggies are looking to bounce back to the Premier League after getting relegated last season. Whereas Reading are fighting for survival to stay in the Championship
They currently sit in 5th place and will likely have to go through the play-off if they are to achieve promotion. Goals have been a struggle for them, but the signing of Carroll will look to change that.
Having said that, some fans of the Baggies won’t be happy with the deal. It’s understandable, Carroll is coming to the end of his career. His spell at Reading wasn’t a disaster, but it wasn’t an outstanding stint either. Not to mention is a track record with injuries.
The 33-year-old will hope that he can prove any doubters wrong and lead West Brom back to the top flight. With the deal being until the end of the season, the English forward will hope he can get some goals and secure a new deal.
Carroll certainly has a lot of experience and could be an influential figure in the dressing room. They’ve only won one from their last 5 games, the ex-Newcastle man will hope he can change that and get West Brom promoted in the process.

A return to the Premier League is still a possibility for Andy Carroll. He may not have gone to Burnley as first thought but could help do so with the Baggies.
If he steps up and scores some key goals for them, he could well end up landing another deal with them. Who knows maybe there’s another chance to see the former Newcastle striker in England’s top-flight sooner rather than later.
