Former Newcastle United defender Jamie Sterry has penned a new two-year contract with Hartlepool United.
The Pools have rewarded the 25-year-old for his contributions last season, which culminated in promotion back to the Football League.
According to The Athletic’s Newcastle correspondent Chris Waugh, Sterry’s new deal is for a further two years.
The news is a real boost for Hartlepool, with Sterry having drawn interest from the likes of Notts County and Sunderland.
But he’ll be staying at Victoria Park, and hope to build on what was the best season of his career to date.
Sterry has been with Hartlepool since December 2020, following his departure from South Shields, where he played a couple of games following his release by Newcastle.
The right-back had been with the Magpies since 2011, and made eight appearances for the first team.
Sterry success nice to see
It must have been tough to take when he was not handed a squad number at Newcastle for the 2019/20 season and restricted to games in the Leasing.com Trophy.
And his actual release can’t have been particularly nice.
So it is nice to see Sterry making good contributions elsewhere, and being rewarded for it.
Hopefully he continues to play regularly at Hartlepool, and he helps them up the football pyramid.
Or he gets a move to a club in the higher divisions.
At 25, Sterry certainly has time on his side.
