Will Newcastle United stay up? That’s the million dollar question right now.

Having been in a commanding position and well clear of the bottom three, the wheels have well and truly fallen off.

Fulham’s improved form has allowed them to close the gap, with Scott Parker’s side just three points behind the Magpies.

They’ve got momentum, while we look like a side destined for the drop.

The sad thing is, fans have been saying this for weeks. We have seen the similarities between this season and 2016.

Five years ago, Steve McClaren’s side were desperate. By the time Mike Ashley acted and changed managers, it was too late.

And all the signs point to that happening yet again this time out. What’s more worrying is that Ashley is reportedly still unwilling to sack Steve Bruce.

After 25 games in 2016, the Magpies were 17th with 24 points – one point clear of the drop. Five years on and Newcastle have got one more point and a slightly bigger cushion between themselves and Fulham.

But the feeling from fans is the same. They can feel relegation looming. They recognised the need for change.

Five years ago, Ashley took too long to sack McClaren, despite the wishes of fans. He acted late, and sealed his fate. That is what fans think is happening this season.
