Chelsea have now halved their asking price for Newcastle United target Trevoh Chalobah after asking for £50m in the summer.

Newcastle had hoped to bring Chalobah in during the summer to help out with the increased number of games for the upcoming season but had been put off by the £50m price tag.

The Daily Expfress are now reporting that Chelsea are willing to let the defender go for just £25m amid rumours that he is a target for Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

Chalobah almost made £50m move

While Newcastle were unwilling to pay the fee for the centre-back in the summer, Bayern Munich had almost completed the deal for Chalobah but Fabrizio Romano revealed it had fallen through.

Chelsea had been very keen to offload some of their academy products in the most recent window after some extreme spending under Todd Boehly, but the 24-year-old is still on their books.

Chalobah is yet to play a single minute under Mauricio Pochettino and both parties are looking for the earliest opportunity to part ways with Newcastle still keeping their eye on the situation.

After missing out on £50m, the Blues are clearly very keen to cash in on the defender while they still can after halving his price only a few months after the deal collapsed.

Chalobah remains a target for Newcastle

Newcastle had shown a lot of interest in the summer, but their attentions turned elsewhere with a midfielder now the priority signing in the January window thanks to a 10-month suspension for Sandro Tonali.

That said, Newcastle are believed to still be keen on Chalobah and could still make a bid for the Chelsea man in the upcoming window if the price is right.

One thing that may put Newcastle off is that the former England youth international has struggled with an injury this season and the last thing Eddie Howe needs right now is more players sat on the sidelines.

Described as ‘fantastic‘ by Frank Lampard certainly has potential but will need to time to get back up to speed having not played for so long.

It will no doubt be carefully looked at and considered by Howe’s team, but Chalobah is still one name that Newcastle are monitoring ahead of what is an incredibly important transfer window.
