Football ‘pundit’ Dennis Wise appeared on Sky Sports on Wednesday to offer his opinion on any takeover of Newcastle United and – for the umpteenth time – to publicly tell the world what a great guy Mike Ashley is.
Wise, a friend of the Newcastle owner, was asked questions by Sky’s David Craig – another from Ashley’s inner sanctum – about the takeover speculation at Newcastle.
It was always likely to get a swift and loud response from Toon fans, and sure enough, Twitter lit up afterwards.
His comments come a day after Ashley’s close friend Keith Bishop’s PR company returned to Twitter, which saw their triumphant return tweet bombarded by Newcastle fans, offering their opinion.
Ashley’s pals are always on hand to sing his praises
It seems that whenever the fans and regional media have big questions to ask of Ashley and Newcastle United, and are craving answers, the usual suspects are rolled out into the public eye to big-up the man.
Sky in particular rarely offer the supporters’ side of the argument, which leaves a whole fan-base having to take to social media to make their point known.
If only that platform gained as big a national audience as the NUFC Twitter feed!
Here are some of the reactions from Newcastle fans:
If he cared, why did he not PAY ANY advertising fee for the sports Direct signs around the ground?? @denniswise go and speak with your England colleague @alanshearer or @IanWright0 … Let me know your feelings then

Is that Dennis Wise talking about Newcastle again with no counter argument. Sounds about right, I wonder how many times he says that rubbish to make himself believe it.

Nobody expects him to pile hundreds of millions into the club. What we do expect is sensible amounts of money, money which the club generates, to be spent with the aim of moving the club forward instead of spending next to nothing and standing still.

This is worrying… feels like a preemptive PR strike to the fall apart of the sale

Isn’t this sort of interview normally the prelude to news that the takeover has collapsed?

Anyone else think in a couple weeks takeover off and rafa gone, the charm offensive for Ashley from his mates in the last couple of days has been very noticable!
