Miguel Almiron came off the bench in the 56th minute for Paraguay last night. Seven minutes later and he was heading for an early bath.

The Newcastle speedster received a straight red card for a horror challenge on Mexico’s Jose Vazquez.

With Paraguay 3-0 down, Almiron immediately had an impact, helping his side get a goal back. But that was as good as it got, and just minutes later, Almiron’s game was over.

The 25-year-old committed a horrible challenge from behind, stamping down on Vazquez’s calf. The incident led to a mass brawl between the two sides. And to think this was just a friendly…

Almiron was correctly given a straight red, and it’s a side from him that we’re yet to see since becoming a Newcastle player.

On the face of it, he looks like a shy and timid lad who wouldn’t say boo to a goose.

However, Twitter account @MLS_Buzz has provided some stats that may surprise fans.

Even since his Newcastle debut, he’s not been scared to make a tackle, but this time he overstepped the mark. Hopefully it’s something we never see him do in a Newcastle shirt.
