Sheffield Wednesday signed two Newcastle players on deadline day, acquiring Rolando Aarons and Achraf Lazaar on loan.

While the former did show moments of magic in a Newcastle shirt, the latter never really got a chance.

Lazaar was signed ahead of the Championship campaign from Palermo, and was even handed the number seven shirt. However, he was never able to rival Paul Dummett to be the club’s first choice left-back.

The Morocco international is now on his second loan spell away from the club, having spent last season at Italian side Benevento.

Joining Steve Bruce’s side on January 31st, Lazaar is yet to make his Owls debut. However, he did play for the club’s Under-23 side on Tuesday night against rivals Sheffield United. And it’s fair to say he made quite the impression.

Wednesday won 2-0, with Aarons getting himself a goal. Lazaar almost did the same, hitting the post with an incredible strike from distance.

Fans impressed with Lazaar

It’s quite surprising to see the Newcastle flop talked about so positively.

It just didn’t work out at St James’ Park for him, but hopefully he can get his career going once again at Hillsborough. Lazaar will be hoping his performance for the reserves forces Bruce to give him his first-team debut this weekend.

If he can play well, then Newcastle might be able to get him off the books this summer. It will be tough though, as his contract runs until 2021.
