Miguel Almiron is still searching for his first Newcastle goal, despite going close against Bournemouth, but he looks like he is finally rediscovering his best form.
It must surely now be a case of when, and not if, it arrives, with him finding the ‘goal-gods’ have been against him in the last couple of games.
As if a last ditch block by the keeper preventing him scoring at West Ham a week ago was not bad enough, he ran onto a loose ball in the box at the Gallowgate End against Bournemouth, only to see his effort cannon off the prone Allan Saint-Maximin, and fly over the bar.
He may not be getting the rub of the green in front of goal, but his overall display against the Cherries was superb, with him virtually covering every blade of grass during the 90 minutes.
Another area that has become impressive from the Paraguayan, is the defensive work he gets through, with him often on the edge of his own box, throwing in a block, or making a crucial interception.
But he desperately needs a goal, just to get rid of the headlines that grow with each blank game, and it is testament to his attitude that he has battled through a sticky patch, with his confidence clearly returning.
He is getting into goal-scoring positions much more often than he was, and seems to be getting closer to his opening goal each week.
Almiron will be like a new player when he finally scores
Once he finds the net, he will be like a player reborn, and we can only imagine what his celebration will be like when it eventually happens.
But Newcastle fans were ruing Almiron’s rotten luck after today’s unfortunate deflection off his own player, and were quick to comment about it on Twitter.
Here are some of the fans’ reactions:
He busts a gut to get there. Shame it wasn’t his day. He keeps plugging away. Its got to happen

Just looking forward to the day when these start going in on a weekly basis. Keep plugging away and the goals will come.
