Remember that time Alan Pardew headbutted David Meyler? There’s been many crazy days in the history of Newcastle United, and this is one of them.
The Magpies headed to Hull in March 2014 in search of back-to-back victories, having beat Aston Villa 1-0 the week before.
Pardew’s side were enjoying a strong season, sitting in the top half. However, things had been starting to unravel since the December 29th defeat to Arsenal.

But Newcastle looked back to their best against Hull, winning 4-1 thanks to two goals from Moussa Sissoko and strikes from Loic Remy and Vurnon Anita.
However, the big talking point was what happened on the touchline. When the ball went out for a throw-in to Hull, Meyler went to retrieve the ball and clashed with Pardew. Next thing you know, the Toon boss has laid a headbutt on the Irish midfielder, and a scuffle breaks out.
Interestingly, Pardew’s opposite number that day was current Magpies boss Steve Bruce.

But why is this game suddenly relevant again? Well, Meyler has officially confirmed his retirement as a player. He was released by Reading this summer and has decided to hang up his boots at the rather young age of 30.
So where do Newcastle come in to this? Well, a lot of football fans are blaming former Magpies boss Pardew for Meyler’s early retirement.

Is Pardew to blame for Meyler retiring early? Probably not
