Fabrizio Romano has claimed Newcastle transfer target Harry Winks is loving life at Tottenham Hotspur under Antonio Conte.
The midfielder is said to be on the Magpies’ radar, ahead of the January transfer window.
According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, Winks is a prime target for Newcastle.
He hasn’t seen much game time for Spurs this term.
He’s only made three appearances in the Premier League so far.
One wonders if this could be the start of a turnaround for the player.
Journalist Romano was speaking about the situation on his Here We Go podcast, and suggested Winks is happier now following Conte’s arrival.
He said: “It is easy to mention top players like Reguilon, Kane. But for example, Winks is a player that now is loving his Tottenham life with Antonio Conte I’m told.
“And many others are super excited with Conte as a manager.”
The Times had claimed back in October that Winks was keen to leave Spurs on loan.
Newcastle swoop for Harry Winks in jeopardy?
We will see if Harry Winks actually starts to see more minutes under Conte.
He may now be loving life under the Italian.
But he may still be keen for an exit from the club if he doesn’t start playing regularly.
Realistically though, £50,000-a-week star Winks could be set for several chances. The Christmas period is always hectic and players will need rotating.
He will surely have a part to play, and a few good performances could well leave a proposed January move to Newcastle dead in the water.
Hopefully, Newcastle have some alternatives lined up.
