The next step is for the new owners to bring someone in who can oversee transfers and recruitment.

A number of names have been linked with a move to St. James’ Park.

And Newcastle fans seemingly won’t have too much longer to wait before there is an announcement on the key appointment.

Fabrizio Romano was speaking about the situation on the Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE YouTube channel.

He said: “They’re going to decide on their director in some days, they’re going to meet with some directors this week.

“(Michael) Emenalo is one of them, so let’s see what they will decide who is the right man to build this new Newcastle project.”

Magpies fans will hope an appointment does indeed come soon.

The January transfer window is now only weeks away, and it is important for the club to have someone in place now to start strategising.

Newcastle director of football update is welcome news

It seems it won’t be much longer now before Newcastle appoint a new director of football.

As was the case with the manager search, the new owners are taking their time over the decision.

The role of a director of football/sporting director is a really important one at a football club these days.

Newcastle obviously now have huge financial might, but the club need someone to identify the right targets and then facilitate the transfer.
