Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar has returned to action today, playing a half for the club’s U23s.
The central defender is back in the picture at last, having been sidelined for the past couple of months.
In total, Schar has missed the last 10 games for the Magpies since injuring his knee in the 3-2 win over Southampton back in February.
Although he hadn’t been in the best form before his setback, Schar has proven a miss for Newcastle, who have kept just one clean sheet in his absence.
Schar came through today’s game unscathed, and could be in contention for this weekend’s game against Arsenal.
Taking to social media after his outing, the £40,000-a-week star (Spotrac) said: “Good to get some min in the tank.. feels good to be back on the pitch.”
Schar return a boost for Newcastle
Hopefully Schar can return for the first-team very soon.
He may not have enjoyed his best season in 2020/21, but Newcastle are undoubtedly a better team with him in the starting XI.
Although Newcastle are in a much healthier position in the Premier League table than a couple of weeks ago, nothing is done yet and Schar coming back into the fold will be a big positive.
